Rules for Entry

Candidates must be of a standard or have passed their last exam with a mark of 80 or above. The committee have agreed, that to be fair to all candidates, we cannot accept pupils who are studying at a vocational dance school or those who are professional dancers. The Russian Ballet Awards are for amateur dancers only.

Teacher members of the named Russian Ballet Societies must first register their interest by sending their name, school name and contact details via the contact page of this website. You will then be sent a confirmation of acceptance.

Age as of 1st September 2019

Age groups are as follows;

8/9 year olds

10/11 year olds

12/13 year olds

14/16 year olds

17/21 year olds

First round: Video audition. Cost per video per candidate is £5 sterling to be collected by the teacher and sent via bank transfer.

A short mobile video per child should be submitted of not more than 55 seconds and sent to the panel for viewing. (Please see the ‘Audition’ page for guidance). This will ensure that only the successful pupils, particularly pupils from abroad, will need to make the journey to London. Please send your videos to: Details to be announced shortly.

Teachers, please be aware that we take data protection very seriously and would require you to ask permission from your parents to allow you to take demonstration videos of your pupils. Your videos will be viewed by 3 experienced teachers who will be studying them in their individual homes and not as a group. This will ensure that the audition process is as fair as possible.  All videos will be deleted as soon as the panel have made their decisions.

Videos will be accepted for viewing from 1st February 2019

and will close mid April 2019. This is a NEW UPDATE!

The committee has reviewed the closing date and believes  more time is needed for teachers to prepare.

Successful candidates will be notified by mid May 2019. Each successful individual will finally be required to pay a registration fee of £20 sterling for children 8 – 13yrs and £25 sterling for ages 14 upwards to hold their place in the R.B.Awards. The committee members have the right to hold a short list of candidates in case some dancers cannot take up their position.

All successful candidates must wear a ballet uniform for the Awards day: Black leotard with spaghetti straps, pink ballet tights, clean pink ballet shoes, (preferably canvas split sole) and no skirt is the requirement for the Russian Ballet Awards.
